Blackpool illuminations

A quick look at the biggest events we’re powering this summer

We’re no strangers to powering large scale events here at Rubber Box. If you’re a regular follower of our blog, you’ll already know how we’ve provided power to huge events like Formula One and the Olympics. This summer is no different, as with our rubber boxes and power distros being on demand for some major events this summer. This week, we take a look at a few of the biggest ones!

Kendal Calling

We’re starting off with one that’s actually kicking off in just a few days! Beginning on Thursday, Kendal Calling is an ever-expanding music festival in the beautiful Lake District, in Cumbria. It’s got quite the mix of music, with everything from rock and indie to folk, electro and dance. That diversity probably goes some way to explaining its incredible popularity. Thursday will be its twelfth year – it’s now a four day festival with nine separate stages, with capacity for just over 25,000 people. Considering it started as a two-day event with capacity for just 900, those are some pretty impressive numbers!

It’s recently been voted the Best Small UK festival by the general public, and the organisers seem to be committed to making it even bigger and better with each passing year. Having been a previous happy customer of Rubber Box, the Kendal Calling placed another order with us this year for a number of rubber boxes and power distribution equipment. We don’t know about you, but we think it’ll be interesting to see what the festival has in store!

Blackpool Illuminations and Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Blackpool at night

A nationally acclaimed event, the Blackpool Illuminations is an annual lights festival that’s been proclaimed as ‘the greatest free light show on Earth’. Like Kendal Calling, it’s given itself a very high bar to live up to! It’s been going now for well over a century, first starting in 1879. Today, the titular illuminations shine for 66 days between August and November.

They’re truly an amazing sight. If you’ve ever seen them for yourself, you’ll know what we’re talking about! They’re 6 miles long, and use over 1 million bulbs. The installations take 22 weeks to be fully erected in time for the great Switch On event, and 9 weeks to take down after the display has finished.

Longtime visitors to the illuminations won’t need any introduction to Blackpool Pleasure Beach, the city’s other famous attraction. The historic amusement park is home to several record-breaking rollercoasters and rides – not just in the UK, but also internationally!

Like the organisers of Kendal Calling, it seems that the organisers are keen to make ever more improvements to their respective sites, and Blackpool Council (who run the illuminations) have joined the private owners of the Pleasure Beach in placing orders with Rubber Box for power distros and other electrical equipment this year. You probably wouldn’t catch many of us on a record-breaking rollercoaster here at Rubber Box, but as for illuminations – we’re looking forward to the show!

As you might expect, our engineers are committed to providing the same reliable, high-quality equipment and outstanding standard of service to all of our customers, no matter their size! Feel free to browse our full range of power distros right here on our website. If you’re not sure of what you need or you have a question you need answering, just give us a call on 01282 677 910.
