Three Questions We Ask When Creating Your Power Distro Box

Power distribution is our business, so as you can imagine we’ve got a pretty good idea of how to do things best. Before we get started on building your bespoke power distro, though, there are a few questions we need to ask you. It’s not necessary for you to go into minute detail, especially if you’re not technically minded, but giving us the broad strokes can definitely help speed things up for everybody.

What’s The Inlet Size?

The absolute essentials when it comes to information about your power distribution box, the inlet size dictates the amount of power going into the rubber box from the power source. The inlets are rated at specific measures, which are 16 amps, 32 amps, 63 amps and 125 amps. Now, we won’t go too deeply into the technical stuff here, but you don’t need to have a huge understanding anyway – the amp’s rating tells you how much power you can draw from the box. That means you can’t draw 96 amps from a box with an inlet only rated at 63, for example, because it’s going to trip out each and every time. Simple stuff.

How Many Outlets Do You Need On The Box?

Basically, this question more or less translates to how many pieces of equipment you’ll need to be running off it. Again, this is vital information we’ll need before we even start putting together a quote. If we get any numbers wrong on the inlets or outlets, it could well make it unsuitable for the job alone, which would either mean starting over or you buying another one to support it. Not really a situation anyone’s too keen on! It can also help if you know what sort of power your equipment is going to be pulling on each outlet, but this isn’t compulsory information. Both the inlets and the outlets will also always have the same IP ratings – we talked about this in a previous blog, but basically it refers to their level of resistance and weather protection.

Do You Have Any Special Requirement For Extra Protection?

OK, so it looks like a slightly worrying question at first glance – after all, who doesn’t want to be properly protected? – but trust us, it’s not always necessary. As we often say, safety is an absolute priority for us here at Rubber Box, and we protect each of our power distribution boxes fully with an absolute minimum level of earth leakage protection by default, which means your safety is always guaranteed. If you’re not sure whether or not your equipment has a special requirement for protection, chances are that it doesn’t.

We have very strong ideas of the way things are done here at Rubber Box, which means we don’t do any unnecessary upsells, but we don’t scrimp on matters where your safety is concerned either; we make our recommendations purely on what’s best for you. If you need extra protection in the form of an MCB or RCD we won’t hesitate to let you know, but generally we try and save you on the extra cost and resources in cases where we can see it definitely won’t be necessary.
