How Rubber Box Provides Power To Worldwide Sport (Part 1)
All our years in the industry has given us time to develop an international reputation here at Rubber Box, which means that today, our power distros are highly sought after to power some of the biggest global events. We’ve told you before about some of our biggest bespoke projects – but that’s by no means an exhaustive list! 2018 has brought a whole new raft of exciting challenges for our engineers, with even more set to come our way – here are just a few that are going on right now!
The Commonwealth Games
Often rivalling the Olympics in terms of global fame, the Commonwealth Games have been a fixture of the international calendar for decades. The Commonwealth itself is composed of dozens of countries that are all linked in some way to Britain. (OK, to be honest we used to own most of them as part of the British Empire, but thankfully we have a much less…colonial relationship with them these days.)
Today, almost one in every three people on the entire planet live in the Commonwealth, and it’s a vast melting pot of all sorts of faiths, races, languages and cultures. More than 6,600 athletes and team officials from 70 of these nations and territories have convened on the Gold Coast in Australia to compete in the Games, which opened on the 4th of April. It’s an event that gets worldwide coverage, and we supplied one of the biggest British broadcasters with the vital equipment they needed for filming and lighting – so you (and we) can enjoy all the excitement of the Games from the comfort of our own sofas!
Formula One
It almost needs no introduction – Formula One is one of the single most prestigious and renowned motorsports events on the face of the planet. Here at Rubber Box we’re proud to have a long history of supplying power distribution equipment to Formula One events, and this year was no different, as we supplied key power distribution equipment to four world-famous teams.
In case you’re wondering, the importance of power distribution is not to be underestimated in the running of the cars themselves! Arguably just as much work is done in the garage and datacentres as it is out on the track. Engineers are constantly calculating and adjusting how they can shave off a even a few seconds off every lap, where such minute time differences can potentially make the difference between winning and losing. That means their electrical equipment has to be absolutely top-notch in terms of efficiency, and that’s exactly what we strive to provide here at Rubber Box!
The Superbike Championships
The motorcycle enthusiasts amongst you will probably already know that there are two major superbike events going on right now – the British Superbike Championship and the World Superbike Championship, both founded in 1988. For the uninitiated, the latter is essentially touring car racing, but for motorbikes. The British Superbike Championship runs in twelve rounds, from April to October, while the World Superbike Championship has been running since February this year, and will until October.
The entrants include those from globally-recognised names like Yamaha, Ducati, Kawasaki, BMW, Honda and Aprilia. We’ve supplied several of these teams for their engineering and corporate hospitality facilities, and we’re pleased to say the teams have been thrilled with our service and products so far. (Here’s a fun fact for you – the most successful World Superbike racer of all time, Carl Fogarty, is from right here in Blackburn! Way to fly the flag, Carl!)
We pride ourselves on providing this stellar service and top-quality equipment to every single one of our customers, no matter how big or small. In fact, we even have a dedicated section on our website for customers looking for a bespoke power distro – even though most of our customers find that the power distros amongst our stock are more than satisfactory for their needs. And if you need a helping hand in terms of what you’re after, don’t forget you can always give our team a call on 01282 677 910. We’re here to help!
